Peace is a Personal Journey

Confucius taught, “To put the world in order, we must first put the nation in order; to put the nation in order, we must put the family in order; to put the family in order, we must cultivate our personal life; and to cultivate our personal life, we must first set our hearts right.”

"To put the world in order, we must first put the nation in order; to put the nation in order, we must put the family in order; to put the family in order, we must cultivate our personal life; and to cultivate our personal life, we must first set our hearts right.” - Confucius

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has interpreted this teaching to mean you need to first ensure your moral compass is set in the right direction by following principled ideals, but then you have to take practical steps to realise them in your own life. In his situation, he did this after the Korean war by learning English, writing poetry, and traveling internationally with youth from many nations.

He shares some of his life's story - and lessons - in LinkedIn.com's series, "If I were 22". But the lessons are equally valid at any age.
