Peace on the Street

I saw his bed first – a sleeping bag covered by a blue tarp outside a bus shelter on a busy Toronto corner, but it was neither sheltered nor private. A steady stream of people passed it on their way to the nearby offices, shops and hospitals, collars turned up against the cold. Descending the steps to the subway, I saw a man in the corridor, sitting on a Webster’s dictionary. Another similarly-sized tome rested on a bag beside him; whether to sit on or read, I didn’t yet know.

International Day of Peace message, 2019 (video)

I am excited to be celebrating the International Day of Peace in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It was a very special day and week - I produced my first song, Nous Sommes Ensemble, I acted in my first play with the spectacular Lumiere Du Monde drama troupe from Rwanda, and I enjoyed the poems, acting, and passion for peace shared by the youth at CBCA Virunga's peace day celebration.

Feeding body and soul on a cold winter’s day

I live in a wonderfully walkable neighbourhood in Toronto, the largest metropolis in Canada, so I tend to shop close to home. But a dry cleaning emergency this month led me to another pedestrian destination, Roncesvalles Village, during my lunch hour today. I was thrilled to find an adjacent eatery with healthy, vegetarian options. As I left with several meals to save time for writing and photography, I put my change in my pocket.
